The 8 km long Solbakktunnel was handed over on 01 February 2019. The team in Norway completed the two parallel tubes on schedule and handed them over to the satisfied client, Statens Vegvesen (Norwegian Road Authority).
Already before the breakthrough of the first tube in October 2017 and the second tube in January 2018, the specialists had started the interior work of the tunnels in order to reach the final milestone desired by the client.
After a construction period of five and a half years, the completed tunnel has now been handed over to the client - the Norwegian Roads Authority. The opening of the tunnel is scheduled for December 2019.
The tunnel runs 290 m below sea level, making it the deepest underwater road tunnel in the world today. The Solbakk Tunnel project is part of the "Norwegian National Road 13" and connects the cities of Tau and Stavanger. Until now, the route could only be crossed by ferry.
